Dwarven doors slamming shut,
The mine-fires dying down.
With troll breath boiling
Dwarf-kind make no sound.
"Bar the gates, brick them fast
We cannot hope to leave.”
In their brothers they must believe.
Pounding gates, crumbling stone,
Jeers from the other side.
Ax heads sharp,
Dwarf-kind shall not hide!
“Throw the locks, tear down the bricks,
We shall not die as so!”
“Charge forward, greet thy foe!”
Feet fall fast within dwarf homes,
Trolls are toppled down.
This day of blood,
Of death, of fire,
Foul fools shall not have the crown.
The enemy comes again with orcs,
Dragon men breathe fiery breath.
Dwarf beards burn,
Ax heads break,
In that hour no coward left.
Then came the calls, sounding horns,
Bellowing in the deeps.
With all his kind,
On the battleground family meets.
“Nigh this day we faltered yes,
Now our enemies flee.”
But even running,
With pride thrown down,
Little peace will we keep.
